As I see it open sourcing Jaiku will make it better than any other. identi.ca is great with it being open source and all, but what sort of development has been done so far? no threaded replies, no mobile site, how long has it been up for? it's just an open source version of twitter, still as confusing with less options than twitter itself.
identi.ca's current features were developed in the span of a couple of months, and succesfully implemented. The one feature I'd be willing to work towards in open sourceku, would be the much needed private messaging.
Has open source really helped laconi.ca gain any serious traction, really? Even Firefox, which is the most successful open source application to date (Linux isn't an application :), has barely managed a 20% market share in a decade.
Google could have done so much more here. It may still be successful, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.
I tend to use the graphic front-end with avatars flying around (forget the name) and am reduced to falling briefly in love with various women around the globe. Oops. Good thing the wife doesn't tweet... o.O

Monkeys vs Hounds!

I don't see why all the panic, some people need to take the time and analyse the situation.

I think we were coming up short on the periodic panic quota

@edythemighty: Private Messaging blah, just give me a mobile site/client and threaded replies tis all.

There's still a lot of things I'd rather say in private, and I don't want to have to give out my email everytime I have to do it

Opposite of me then, I don't do private, I just let it out! :D

yeah private messaging would be handy.

I think I'll take the announcement as good news.
If Twitter would allow discussions like Jaiku does, that would be worse news.
