Recently the ice dispenser quit (icemaker still works though). Then it was the water dispenser. Now if you press ExpressChill (for wine, soda, etc) the whole thing freaks out for about an hour and almost completely quits working.
A little googlng led me to suspect it is suffering the exact same problem my flat screen TV was: bad capacitors on a system board. Just as I fixed the TV by soldering in new ones (CJ is getting hot at this point) I will probably have to do so with the fridge. Investigative analysis to come. Stay tuned for every breathtaking detail!
rofl @texrat, hot and ready. And may I remind you that [t]he word solder comes from the Middle English word soudur, via Old French solduree and soulder, from the Latin solidare, meaning '‘to make solid’'. [en-wiki:Solder] xD
The saddest thing about those capacitors is that they basically singlehandedly obsolete most of our home electronics these days. My previous fridge was from the 70s. I can't think my new no-frost fridge-freezer (w/o dispensers) passing the 5 year mark without at least one repair to the electronics.
The problem is that manufacturers use te bare minimum they can get away with and not have many in-warranty calls. They have gotten very good at calculating the risks. Both TV and fridge failed just a bit outside the warranty.
My fridge was possessed at one point. All the lights on the front were blinking and the ice/water dispenser didn't work. Turned out to be a circuit board which Maytag, to their credit, replaced free of charge even though the fridge was outside of warranty.

One time I fixed my coffee maker by soldering a new thermal fuse in it... does it count as hot? xD

Yeah, Dameon, I intend to call GE first. There is talk in some appliance forums that they had an after-warranty replacement program on motherboards.
